Volunteer Spotlight: Delayne Morris

For years, Delayne Morris has been a steady, faithful presence in our education program, someone who doesn’t just show up, but pours out. She has helped launch our education efforts when moving into our Horn Lake location, helping lay the foundation for what so many students now experience every week.
A retired teacher, Delayne brings both excellence and heart into every classroom. She has a unique ability to create an environment where students feel safe, seen, and supported, while also keeping things structured and purposeful. Her lessons go far beyond worksheets and reading time; she thoughtfully designs them to be applicable to real life, helping students connect what they’re learning to who they are becoming.
But what truly sets Delayne apart is the way she loves. She notices the quiet struggles. She pays attention when a student needs extra encouragement. And she steps in with patience, wisdom, and care, meeting each child right where they are.
When asked what first brought her to serve, Delayne shared, “I’m a retired teacher, and I’ve always loved working with kids. This was a way for me to use that as my ministry and mix it with education.”
And it’s that heart for ministry that keeps her coming back.
“There are so many opportunities to serve the community,” she said. “You don’t have to be good at just one thing, the Dream Center allows you to serve with your strengths.”
She also loves the immediacy of the impact. “You’re helping people right then. Whether it’s at Winter Wonderland and making sure a child has a great Christmas, or sitting with a student and watching them gain reading skills, you can see that your time here matters.”
Delayne is someone we rely on often, and her presence has become an integral part of our education program. As we look ahead, she’s already excited about what’s to come at our new Olive Branch location.
“I’m excited to be part of this from the beginning and help it grow,” she shared. “But I’m also excited because this is my community. I hope to meet and serve the same neighbors I see out at the grocery store.”
Delayne embodies what it means to serve with both purpose and passion, using her gifts to make a lasting difference in the lives of students and families. We are so grateful for her continued “yes” to this mission.
