Volunteer Spotlight: Landon Hoard
Serving with Heart and Purpose
At just 12 years old, Landon, a rising 7th grader at Lewisburg Middle School and a proud percussionist in the school band, is already making waves in his community through consistent, heartfelt service.
Landon began volunteering nearly two years ago, inspired by his first experience at an Adopt-A-Block gathering. “That really opened my eyes to what’s really going on in Mississippi,” he shared. “It felt like I was making a difference.”
Since then, Landon has become a regular presence serving in the DREAM Backpack closet, showing up nearly every Wednesday with a strong work ethic, humility and a commitment to excellence. “I always look forward to coming. I like to see how much I can do while I’m there—I can fill a backpack in 15 seconds or less,” he said with a proud smile.
When asked what keeps him coming back, Landon recalled a moment that stuck with him: “I remember one time they were giving out hair brushes, and this girl was just so excited to get one… and I’m thinking—these are just basic supplies to me.” It was at that time that he realized the fact that he has never struggled with food-insecurity or a lack of material resources in the same way others in his community are struggling with presently. That simple but profound realization fuels his desire to help others.
Landon’s advice to anyone considering volunteering? “Go once and see how you like it! You’re not just putting food in backpacks—you’re really helping a lot of people.”
We’re incredibly grateful for Landon’s dedication and servant’s heart. He reminds us all that no one is too young to make a difference—and sometimes the biggest impact comes from the simplest acts done with love.
