The Power of Relationship in Healthcare

Trinity Health Center is the healthcare pillar for the DeSoto County Dream Center- Providing quality healthcare for the working uninsured.

When Kelli first heard about Trinity Health Center, she realized: “That’s me you’re talking about—I can’t afford insurance and need that kind of care.” Mostly a healthy person, only going to Urgent Care on the occasions she was sick. She never had a primary care physician or access to regular check-ups- that was a luxury she couldn’t afford. After starting to struggle with both physical and mental health challenges, Kelli decided to schedule her first appointment at Trinity.

At Trinity, she found something different: a provider who truly listened. “I've never felt more comfortable where I could talk,” shared Kelli about her experience at Trinity. “And [nurse practitioner- Tina] actually listened and understood me, and I didn't feel rushed… That's how I started coming to Trinity.” Trust was built, and Tina and Kelli worked together to identify a long-term plan of care. Over time, Kelli started to see improvements in both her mental and physical health.

The relationship that formed between Tina and Kelli isn’t just unique to them, the Trinity staff are relationally committed in the way they provide compassionate care to all patients who come through the door. “For me, as a clinician- it's not a job. Honestly, though, my heart is all in, but God takes over the rest. I think we see often God’s intervention [at Trinity Health Center],” said Tina.

Kelli began scheduling regular check-ups in an effort to focus on more preventative health care under the guidance of Tina. Then, during a routine mammogram arranged through Trinity, Kelli received a life-changing call—she had breast cancer.

Kelli and her team of medical professionals are very hopeful that because they were able to catch the cancer early, she will have a positive recovery. “...cancer is going to just be something in my past, you know- something that I went through that God brought me through… all this stuff I was reading about being a Christian- [when I got diagnosed] was my moment to actually give it all to God at that moment. And so that makes me emotional to know that He’s carried me through all this and I'm in good spirits,” Kelli shared.

“I'm thankful for Trinity because it could have been at stage four when I caught [the cancer], but I caught it early because of Trinity. And so I'm always going to be grateful for all these ladies. And I want more DeSoto county people to know that [Trinity] is here, because I would have never known I was sick…” she said.

Trinity Health Center was able to connect Kelli to resources to help pay for her treatment and make sure that she is receiving regular care from an oncologist in Tennessee. There have been fundraisers to support Kelli through the loss of income from missing work, and for the other expenses she is incurring. Kelli is not alone in her cancer journey. She has a team of family, friends and the staff at Trinity who are providing her with support, encouragement and prayer along the way.

This is just one story about the quality healthcare that Trinity Health Center provides to members of our community. We are trusting God to grow our team of volunteers, community advocates, and financial supporters to join with us in moving this vital mission forward. There will be a Trinity Health Center interest meeting held on October 2, at 5:30 where we will share about all of these opportunities to get involved. Partner with us in promoting hope and providing healing through Trinity Health.
